I'm mostly using Xcode 2.4 (Tiger) right now, and I never had a problem with assigning BOOLs to checkboxes - my suspicion would be that the problem lies in your Bindings settings. (Eventually, I am planning to have actual working examples for all the allegedly simple things, because I spend far too much time wrestling tools.)

I broke down the other day and whipped up a working model of something in Filemaker, because it's just *so much* easier to manipulate data models and relationships and I wanted to roadtest an idea; and I wish that Cocoa had the same level of userfriendlyness.

I've spent two coding sessions slamming up against this problem. I have no solution at all to get Core Data to match up with a number of user interface items. (Checkboxes don't seem to want BOOLs; I guess booleans aren't really booleans in Core Data, but NSNumbers.)

Core Data is supposed to make it very easy to do the model. Interface Builder is supposed to make it very easy to do the view. But they don't seem to want to talk to each other very much. Just frustrated, I guess...

But it sure would be nice if this were easier.
